About

Indigenous Politics Consulting and Associates

Indigenous Politics Consulting and Associates was founded in 2024 by Tanya Audrey Matthews, HBA, an esteemed professional of Anicinape and Cree heritage from the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation. Rooted in the Seven Grandfather Teachings—Courage, Honesty, Respect, Love, Wisdom, Humility, and Kindness—our company is dedicated to strengthening Indigenous governance and self-determination.

We provide expert consulting services to Indigenous communities and organizations, helping them build governance structures that reflect their unique cultural values and aspirations while honouring the wisdom of their ancestors. We empower Indigenous leaders to create sustainable, effective, culturally grounded governance models through strategic guidance, policy development, and leadership support.

At Indigenous Politics Consulting and Associates, we believe that strong governance is the foundation of thriving communities.

Our mission is to support Indigenous Nations in achieving sovereignty, economic resilience, and self-governance reflecting their traditions, values, and aspirations.

Let’s build a future of self-determined, empowered leadership together. Contact us today to learn how we can support your First Nation community’s vision.

Our Initiatives: What we believe in

Sovereign First Nation communities uphold their inherent right to self-governance while honoring all of creation. This governance is rooted in the preservation and protection of their values, principles, and sacred customs—timeless laws that guide each community’s way of life.

With a deep respect for the past, present, and future, Sovereign First Nations assert their inherent title to their lands and remain steadfast in upholding treaty agreements—agreements that endure "as long as the sun shines and the rivers flow." Through this commitment, they continue to safeguard their sovereignty, culture, and the well-being of future generations.

We are committed to providing Indigenous communities and social justice advocacy organizations with the most current, accurate, and culturally respectful information while upholding the traditional knowledge systems of each Nation.

Our approach brings together researchers and resources to implement best practices that are tailored to the unique needs of each community. Through strategic collaboration, we design and execute campaigns that strengthen connections, empower communities, and support Indigenous political movements.

By integrating both contemporary research and ancestral wisdom, we ensure that our work upholds Indigenous sovereignty, advances self-determination, and fosters long-term, community-driven solutions.

Lateral Violence Training with certification

This two-day workshop explores the issue of lateral violence and its impact in the workplace. Together, we will examine:

  • The meaning and origins of lateral violence.

  • The individuals who engage in it and the reasons behind their actions.

  • When and where these behaviours begin, and how they can be addressed or stopped.

  • Practical strategies to prevent lateral violence within professional settings.

Through group activities, discussions, and guided reflection, participants will gain insight into how lateral violence affects their work environment and learn effective approaches to fostering respect, understanding, and balance in the workplace. Certification will be issued once the two-day workshop is completed.
